Day-to-day life in Endicott, NY

First post here. The unemployment rate is 3.3%, which is pretty low. With a population of 13,456, Endicott is a small town. You can expect to pay around $822 for rent here. Homes are going for about $109,800 on average. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The suburbs are where most families end up. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The city has invested a lot in new development. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value outdoor recreation, you'll love it. The school system is genuinely excellent and I've found it was the best decision I ever made. My neighborhood (Oak Park) is stable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Phoenix, be prepared for the culture shock. walkability is completely different here. And Limited shopping options.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Old Town for 5 years. Moved from Salt Lake City for retirement. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is average. We bought in 2022 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 4-bed in a safe area. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts.

**Employment:**
government is strong here. consulting is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are reasonable for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
it was the best decision I ever made. The outdoor scene is excellent - we have mountains within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Old Town schools are solid. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Nightlife is limited. Dating scene is rough. And housing market can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For couples, I'd say this is a 8/10. Would recommend to anyone considering it.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a marketing manager, 57, moved here 9 years ago from Atlanta. I've lived in Sunset and North, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Friendly community, easy to meet people
2. Diverse dining options
3. Strong sense of community
4. The people are generally solid - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Nightlife is limited
2. Limited shopping options
3. The community vibe situation is developing and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Sunset: Great for singles. better than expected vibes, walkable.
- North: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Atlanta, everything felt average. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are growing. Gas is affordable. You can live comfortably on $80K-$90K here.

**Final verdict:**
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

My experience has been mostly positive. it's been a really good experience overall. The only thing I'd watch out for is food scene. Other than that, Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..
