It's a a smaller city city with about 33,774 people. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Worth the trade-offs? Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The weather takes some getting used to. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 10 years ago from Nashville and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Fairview. It's average for what you get.
Jobs: The market is pricey right now, especially in retail. If you're in manufacturing you might struggle.
People: Generally surprisingly good. It took about 14 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: better than expected. Tons of options if you like Vietnamese.
It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem decent.
I've been here 3 years and it exceeded my expectations. The thing nobody mentions is community vibe. It's wild and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the safety is legit. And if you're into biking, this place is improving.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The The Heights side vs the Uptown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Good luck with whatever you decide..

I've lived in Meadowbrook for about 3 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. When I first moved here from Nashville, I was surprised by nightlife. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Good airport with direct flights
- The nightlife scene is underrated
The downsides:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Far from beaches/mountains
Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for retirees. Hope this helps!.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 4-bedroom. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Compared to Minneapolis it's improving.

Used to live on the Greenfield side, now on the Highland side. Completely different vibe. I'm still on the fence after all this time.

Hot take but I have mixed feelings honestly. I know a lot of people disagree but after 10 years here, that's my honest assessment.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I genuinely enjoy living here. Internet is solid in most areas.

Came here for weather and stayed because I love the pace of life here. The healthcare is honestly decent and I don't see that changing anytime soon.
