Life in Englewood as a young professional

Random thought, Born and raised here. Average temperature is around 74--F, so it's warm year-round. Crime rate is something to consider -Englewood sits at 187.1 per 100K. Rent is about $1,218/month for a decent place. Homes are going for about $295,600 on average. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The food scene here is surprisingly good. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The city has invested a lot in new development. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The suburbs are where most families end up.

Moved here from San Diego about 15 years ago. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Still getting used to healthcare but No regrets on my end..

I've lived in The Heights for about 8 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I love the pace of life here. When I first moved here from Raleigh, I was surprised by school system. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Decent public transit for the size
- The public transit scene is decent

The downsides:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Far from beaches/mountains

Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for singles. Good luck with whatever you decide..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 5 years ago from Salt Lake City and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Pine Hills. It's challenging for what you get.

Jobs: The market is wild right now, especially in healthcare. If you're in tech you might struggle.

People: Generally underrated. It took about 6 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: solid. Tons of options if you like Mexican.

Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem better than expected.

I've been here 5 years and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The thing nobody mentions is dating scene. It's reasonable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the school system is legit. And if you're into surfing, this place is solid.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Uptown side vs the The Heights side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Hope this helps!.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a marketing manager who relocated here from San Francisco about 13 years ago. The main reasons were my partner's job and a fresh start.

Pros I've experienced:
- Good schools in most areas
- Good airport with direct flights
- Strong sense of community

Cons that are real:
- Property taxes are high
- Limited entertainment options

Financially, we've found it pretty good compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are reasonable, gas is average.

Socially, I'm still on the fence after all this time. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 15 years ago from Charlotte and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Downtown. It's hit or miss for what you get.

Jobs: The market is affordable right now, especially in tech. If you're in hospitality you might struggle.

People: Generally improving. It took about 8 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: decent. Tons of options if you like Mediterranean.

Give it a chance - it might surprise you..
