Honest thoughts on life in Englewood

Longtime lurker here, I'm originally from Charlotte and Crime rate is something to consider -Englewood sits at 247.5 per 100K. Homes are going for about $497,500 on average. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. TIA! There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Property taxes are high but you get good services.

I work in tech here and it's been a really good experience overall. The job market for my field is surprisingly good. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a social worker, 27, moved here 1 years ago from Portland. I've lived in Cedar Grove and East, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Cost of living is very reasonable
2. Great outdoor activities nearby
3. Low crime in most neighborhoods
4. The people are generally solid - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Traffic during rush hour is rough
2. Far from beaches/mountains
3. The weather situation is affordable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Cedar Grove: Great for couples. solid vibes, walkable.
- East: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Portland, everything felt solid. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are wild. Gas is pricey. You can live comfortably on $90K-$90K here.

**Final verdict:**
Hope this helps!. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Bought a house here in 2022 and it's exactly what I was looking for. Property values have gone down slightly since then.

I've been living here for 15 years and I'd say it was the best decision I ever made. The safety is better than expected compared to other places I've lived. Overall Happy to answer more specific questions..
