Is Erie worth it salary-wise?

Hello, Military spouse here. The unemployment rate is 2.8%, which is pretty low. Rent is about $2,775/month for a decent place. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The city has invested a lot in new development. The suburbs are where most families end up. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 1 years ago from Baltimore and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in East. It's average for what you get.

Jobs: The market is established right now, especially in consulting. If you're in tech you might struggle.

People: Generally better than expected. It took about 14 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: pretty good. Tons of options if you like BBQ.

Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Springfield for 3 years. Moved from Nashville for retirement. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is solid. We bought in 2024 at k and it's now worth up significantly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 3-bed in a safe area. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals.

**Employment:**
real estate is strong here. finance is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are stable for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
the quality of life is solid. The outdoor scene is hit or miss - we have beaches within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Springfield schools are better than expected. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Chain restaurants dominate. Limited shopping options. And safety can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For remote workers, I'd say this is a 7/10. It's not for everyone but it works for us.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.
