Curious what people think. With a population of 1,318, Erie is a small town. It's a a small town city with about 1,318 people. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a HR manager who relocated here from Baltimore about 15 years ago. The main reasons were weather and school.
Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Strong job market in several industries
- Close to major attractions
Cons that are real:
- Property taxes are high
- Homeless population growing downtown
Financially, we've found it challenging compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are manageable, gas is solid.
Socially, I have mixed feelings honestly. Definitely worth checking out..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value school system, you'll love it. The cultural scene is genuinely solid and I've found I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. My neighborhood (Midtown) is pricey and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Portland, be prepared for the culture shock. dating scene is completely different here. And Homeless population growing downtown.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

If you value outdoor recreation, you'll love it. The safety is genuinely decent and I've found it's been a really good experience overall. My neighborhood (Greenfield) is growing and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from New York, be prepared for the culture shock. weather is completely different here. And Urban sprawl is real.
