Raising a family in Erie -thoughts?

So, Median household income is $43,397, which feels on the lower side for the area. Homes are going for about $108,200 on average. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Any advice would be great. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years.

Public transit is average here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I have mixed feelings honestly.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 7 years ago from Seattle and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Riverside. It's challenging for what you get.

Jobs: The market is pricey right now, especially in government. If you're in healthcare you might struggle.

People: Generally average. It took about 18 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: pretty good. Tons of options if you like Mediterranean.

It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value dating scene, you'll love it. The dating scene is genuinely solid and I've found I love the pace of life here. My neighborhood (Fairview) is manageable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Charlotte, be prepared for the culture shock. housing market is completely different here. And Limited public transit options.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
