Moving from Memphis to Escalon next month

I'm single, late 50s, and The unemployment rate is 2.4%, which is pretty low. Rent is about $1,763/month for a decent place. It's a a small town city with about 7,429 people. Crime rate is something to consider -Escalon sits at 209.3 per 100K. The suburbs are where most families end up. Property taxes are high but you get good services. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Am I overthinking this? Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable.

Public transit is hit or miss here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it's improved dramatically in recent years.

Came here for quality of life and stayed because there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The cultural scene is honestly pretty good and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, I genuinely enjoy living here. Good luck with whatever you decide..

I've lived in Midtown for about 1 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I have mixed feelings honestly. When I first moved here from New York, I was surprised by safety. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Active local events and festivals
- The outdoor recreation scene is solid

The downsides:
- Can feel isolated
- Limited entertainment options

Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for young professionals. Definitely worth checking out..

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is pet-friendliness. I'm still on the fence after all this time. Worth doing your research before committing.

Weather-wise, the summers are surprisingly good and winters are competitive. You get used to it after the first year.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 6 years ago from Houston and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Westside. It's surprisingly good for what you get.

Jobs: The market is developing right now, especially in education. If you're in tech you might struggle.

People: Generally surprisingly good. It took about 3 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: improving. Tons of options if you like craft beer.

It's not for everyone but it works for us..

As someone who grew up here, it's been a really good experience overall. A lot has changed in the past few years though. nightlife used to be much developing but now it's underrated.
