Housing in Escondido compared to Portland

First post here. We're a young couple and Rent is about $1,922/month for a decent place. It's a a mid-size city city with about 150K people. With a population of 150K, Escondido is a mid-size city. The median home value here is around $663,500, which is pretty steep. The food scene here is surprisingly good. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The weather takes some getting used to. The weather takes some getting used to. The city has invested a lot in new development. The city has invested a lot in new development. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly.

As someone who grew up here, I genuinely enjoy living here. A lot has changed in the past few years though. outdoor recreation used to be much manageable but now it's better than expected.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem surprisingly good.

I've been here 14 years and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The thing nobody mentions is nightlife. It's competitive and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the cost of living is legit. And if you're into golfing, this place is solid.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Pine Hills side vs the Maple Ridge side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

It's not for everyone but it works for us..
