OK so We have two kids and Crime rate is something to consider -Etna sits at 180.5 per 100K. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The weather takes some getting used to. Is this normal for Etna? The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level.

We moved here with our family and it's been a really good experience overall. Schools in Springfield area are average. Kids love it here.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want community vibe, then yeah this place is great. But if outdoor recreation matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

I've lived in Oak Park for about 1 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. When I first moved here from Denver, I was surprised by pet-friendliness. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- The walkability scene is pretty good
The downsides:
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
- Chain restaurants dominate
Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for retirees. Feel free to reach out with questions..

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it exceeded my expectations. Internet is tough in most areas.

I work in government here and I'm still on the fence after all this time. The job market for my field is challenging. Good luck with whatever you decide..

I've been living here for 3 years and I'd say it's not perfect but it works for me. The nightlife is challenging compared to other places I've lived. Overall Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a sales manager who relocated here from New York about 10 years ago. The main reasons were work and work.
Pros I've experienced:
- Decent public transit for the size
- Four distinct seasons
- Good airport with direct flights
Cons that are real:
- Nightlife is limited
- Urban sprawl is real
Financially, we've found it excellent compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are pricey, gas is pretty good.
Socially, I have mixed feelings honestly. Hope this helps!.

Weather-wise, the summers are better than expected and winters are wild. You get used to it after the first year.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a social worker who relocated here from Dallas about 5 years ago. The main reasons were school and weather.
Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Good healthcare facilities
- Four distinct seasons
Cons that are real:
- Property taxes are high
- Bugs and humidity in summer
Financially, we've found it hit or miss compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are established, gas is better than expected.
Socially, I genuinely enjoy living here. It's not for everyone but it works for us..
