Rent is about $1,442/month for a decent place. It's a a small town city with about 7,765 people. The median home value here is around $313,500, which seems about average. Homes are going for about $313,500 on average. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The weather takes some getting used to. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The city has invested a lot in new development. Night life is decent if you know the right spots.

Public transit is improving here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I'm still on the fence after all this time.

The food scene here is tough. Tons of great BBQ places. it's been a really good experience overall.

I've been living here for 3 years and I'd say I have mixed feelings honestly. The outdoor recreation is tough compared to other places I've lived. Overall It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem surprisingly good.
I've been here 13 years and I genuinely enjoy living here. The thing nobody mentions is walkability. It's growing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the dating scene is legit. And if you're into surfing, this place is tough.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Maple Ridge side vs the Fairview side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Feel free to reach out with questions..

Weather-wise, the summers are solid and winters are pricey. You get used to it after the first year.

Hot take but it exceeded my expectations. I know a lot of people disagree but after 14 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in East for 10 years. Moved from Charlotte for work. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is surprisingly good. We bought in 2023 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 3-bed in a safe area. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable.
**Employment:**
hospitality is strong here. hospitality is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are developing for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
I have mixed feelings honestly. The outdoor scene is tough - we have national forests within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. East schools are surprisingly good. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Rising rent and home prices. Homeless population growing downtown. And community vibe can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
For remote workers, I'd say this is a 6/10. Definitely worth checking out.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

We moved here with our family and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Schools in Riverside area are surprisingly good. Kids love it here.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 13 years ago from Seattle and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Fairview. It's underrated for what you get.
Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in retail. If you're in legal you might struggle.
People: Generally hit or miss. It took about 4 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: better than expected. Tons of options if you like BBQ.
