Unpopular opinion about Etowah

Hey folks, I'm a teacher here and The unemployment rate is 9.4%, which is concerning. Household incomes average around $43,614 in Etowah. Homes are going for about $165,900 on average. It's a a small town city with about 3,621 people. Average temperature is around 59--F, so the weather is moderate. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Night life is decent if you know the right spots.

Pros:
- Friendly people
- Close to nature
- Lots of new development
- Strong sense of community

Cons:
- Limited public transit
- Limited dining options
- Not enough green space
What are your go-to spots? It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. I've lived in Sunset for about 13 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it was the best decision I ever made. When I first moved here from Charlotte, I was surprised by community vibe. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- The community vibe scene is surprisingly good

The downsides:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Limited high-paying job options

Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for retirees. Definitely worth checking out..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a HR manager, 52, moved here 5 years ago from Raleigh. I've lived in The Heights and Springfield, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Lots of new development happening
2. Close to major attractions
3. Diverse dining options
4. The people are generally improving - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Traffic during rush hour is rough
2. Far from beaches/mountains
3. The weather situation is growing and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- The Heights: Great for remote workers. average vibes, walkable.
- Springfield: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Raleigh, everything felt better than expected. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are pricey. Gas is competitive. You can live comfortably on $100K-$150K here.

**Final verdict:**
It's not for everyone but it works for us.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
