Eugene quality of life — am I missing something?

Been meaning to ask this. Been living here since 2020. It's a a mid-size city city with about 178K people. The median home value here is around $435,400, which is pretty steep. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Am I wrong here? The weather takes some getting used to. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The weather takes some getting used to. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 10 years ago from Nashville and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Eastside. It's hit or miss for what you get.

Jobs: The market is established right now, especially in retail. If you're in tech you might struggle.

People: Generally improving. It took about 9 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: tough. Tons of options if you like Southern.

No regrets on my end..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value traffic, you'll love it. The traffic is genuinely better than expected and I've found the quality of life is solid. My neighborhood (Springfield) is reasonable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Raleigh, be prepared for the culture shock. job market is completely different here. And Limited public transit options.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
