Is Eugene worth it salary-wise?

Random thought, I relocated for work and It's a a mid-size city city with about 178K people. You can expect to pay around $1,347 for rent here. Rent is about $1,347/month for a decent place. Homes are going for about $435,400 on average. The suburbs are where most families end up. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Worth the trade-offs? Thanks in advance! Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem excellent.

I've been here 7 years and the quality of life is solid. The thing nobody mentions is housing market. It's stable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the cultural scene is legit. And if you're into golfing, this place is challenging.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The West side vs the Fairview side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

No regrets on my end..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 1-bedroom. I genuinely enjoy living here. Compared to Nashville it's surprisingly good.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Internet is decent in most areas.

My experience has been mostly positive. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The only thing I'd watch out for is traffic. Other than that, Would recommend to anyone considering it..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 13 years ago from Miami and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Westside. It's solid for what you get.

Jobs: The market is reasonable right now, especially in real estate. If you're in finance you might struggle.

People: Generally pretty good. It took about 18 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: challenging. Tons of options if you like seafood.

No regrets on my end..

I've been living here for 3 years and I'd say I'm still on the fence after all this time. The healthcare is better than expected compared to other places I've lived. Overall No regrets on my end..

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want safety, then yeah this place is great. But if outdoor recreation matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Bought a house here in 2022 and it exceeded my expectations. Property values have gone about the same since then.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Oak Park for 7 years. Moved from Tampa for quality of life. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is improving. We bought in 2022 at k and it's now worth about the same than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 1-bed in a safe area. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable.

**Employment:**
marketing is strong here. retail is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are developing for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
it's improved dramatically in recent years. The outdoor scene is improving - we have state parks within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Oak Park schools are improving. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Winters are long and cold. Property taxes are high. And housing market can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For remote workers, I'd say this is a 6/10. Definitely worth checking out.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is cost of living. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Worth doing your research before committing.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a chef, 45, moved here 8 years ago from Boston. I've lived in West and Pine Hills, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Friendly community, easy to meet people
2. Good healthcare facilities
3. Active local events and festivals
4. The people are generally surprisingly good - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Limited public transit options
2. Limited entertainment options
3. The food scene situation is stable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- West: Great for couples. excellent vibes, walkable.
- Pine Hills: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Boston, everything felt decent. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are reasonable. Gas is stable. You can live comfortably on $80K-$150K here.

**Final verdict:**
No regrets on my end.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are better than expected, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a real estate agent who relocated here from Phoenix about 9 years ago. The main reasons were cost of living and my partner's job.

Pros I've experienced:
- Good schools in most areas
- Good internet infrastructure
- Active local events and festivals

Cons that are real:
- Limited entertainment options
- Bugs and humidity in summer

Financially, we've found it hit or miss compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are developing, gas is average.

Socially, it exceeded my expectations. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..
