Is Eugene worth moving to in 2026?

Curious what people think. Been living here since 2018. Homes are going for about $435,400 on average. The unemployment rate is 4.8%, which is about average. Median household income is $63,836, which feels about average for the area. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The city has invested a lot in new development. Thoughts? Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The suburbs are where most families end up. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. It's changing fast — some good, some not so much. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The food scene here is surprisingly good. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are challenging, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

I've been living here for 2 years and I'd say the quality of life is solid. The job market is solid compared to other places I've lived. Overall Good luck with whatever you decide..

Weather-wise, the summers are solid and winters are competitive. You get used to it after the first year.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it's exactly what I was looking for. Feel free to reach out with questions..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a sales manager who relocated here from Nashville about 5 years ago. The main reasons were weather and school.

Pros I've experienced:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Lots of new development happening
- Affordable housing options

Cons that are real:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Limited entertainment options

Financially, we've found it excellent compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are pricey, gas is solid.

Socially, I have mixed feelings honestly. Happy to answer more specific questions..
