Curious what people think. I'm a teacher here and Poverty rate is 5.2%, which is pretty low. Median household income is $80,987, which feels pretty solid for the area. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Let me know your thoughts. The food scene here is surprisingly good.

The food scene here is underrated. Tons of great Mexican places. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a contractor who relocated here from Miami about 5 years ago. The main reasons were my partner's job and school.
Pros I've experienced:
- Strong job market in several industries
- Good airport with direct flights
- Lots of family-friendly activities
Cons that are real:
- Property taxes are high
- Bugs and humidity in summer
Financially, we've found it underrated compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are growing, gas is decent.
Socially, the quality of life is solid. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

I work in legal here and it's improved dramatically in recent years. The job market for my field is challenging. No regrets on my end..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value school system, you'll love it. The healthcare is genuinely surprisingly good and I've found there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. My neighborhood (Downtown) is growing and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Tampa, be prepared for the culture shock. pet-friendliness is completely different here. And Limited high-paying job options.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

If you value walkability, you'll love it. The traffic is genuinely improving and I've found there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. My neighborhood (Midtown) is reasonable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Miami, be prepared for the culture shock. community vibe is completely different here. And Summers can be brutally hot.

Public transit is tough here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it's been a really good experience overall.
