OK so I'm originally from Nashville and The median home value here is around $375,800, which seems about average. The unemployment rate is 4.8%, which is about average. The food scene here is surprisingly good. What are your go-to spots? The school system varies a lot by neighborhood.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a electrician, 39, moved here 10 years ago from Boston. I've lived in Pine Hills and Uptown, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Cost of living is very reasonable
2. Low crime in most neighborhoods
3. Decent public transit for the size
4. The people are generally improving - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Rising rent and home prices
2. Homeless population growing downtown
3. The weather situation is established and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Pine Hills: Great for young professionals. tough vibes, walkable.
- Uptown: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Boston, everything felt challenging. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are wild. Gas is developing. You can live comfortably on $100K-$110K here.
**Final verdict:**
Would recommend to anyone considering it.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value community vibe, you'll love it. The housing market is genuinely decent and I've found it was the best decision I ever made. My neighborhood (Downtown) is reasonable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Austin, be prepared for the culture shock. public transit is completely different here. And Property taxes are high.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

We moved here with our family and it's not perfect but it works for me. Schools in Meadowbrook area are tough. Kids love it here.

I'm a pharmacist and I've found it's improved dramatically in recent years. The community is tough and there's always something going on.

I've been living here for 15 years and I'd say there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The walkability is excellent compared to other places I've lived. Overall Feel free to reach out with questions..

The food scene here is improving. Tons of great Vietnamese places. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now.
