Born and raised here. The median home value here is around $326,300, which seems about average. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Thoughts?

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 3 years ago from Salt Lake City and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Oak Park. It's improving for what you get.
Jobs: The market is wild right now, especially in retail. If you're in marketing you might struggle.
People: Generally challenging. It took about 7 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: challenging. Tons of options if you like Asian.
No regrets on my end..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value cost of living, you'll love it. The traffic is genuinely underrated and I've found I have mixed feelings honestly. My neighborhood (Maple Ridge) is wild and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Minneapolis, be prepared for the culture shock. housing market is completely different here. And Dating scene is rough.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

We moved here with our family and it's not perfect but it works for me. Schools in West area are excellent. Kids love it here.

My experience has been mostly positive. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The only thing I'd watch out for is community vibe. Other than that, Definitely worth checking out..
