Living in Evanston -the reality

Alright, I'm a 55-year-old marketing manager and Average temperature is around 42--F, so bundle up in winter. It's a a small town city with about 11,803 people. The unemployment rate is 2.9%, which is pretty low. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Any advice would be great. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Bought a house here in 2019 and I'm still on the fence after all this time. Property values have gone down slightly since then.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a electrician who relocated here from Boston about 13 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and weather.

Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Good schools in most areas
- Diverse dining options

Cons that are real:
- Dating scene is rough
- Homeless population growing downtown

Financially, we've found it better than expected compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are developing, gas is pretty good.

Socially, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Good luck with whatever you decide..
