Cost of living reality check -Evansville

I'm single, late 50s, and With a population of 116K, Evansville is a mid-size city. Average temperature is around 59--F, so the weather is moderate. Rent is about $949/month for a decent place. The unemployment rate is 3.3%, which is pretty low. The median home value here is around $129,100, which is actually reasonable. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable.

Pros:
- Great weather
- Nice parks and trails
- Good airport connections

Cons:
- Traffic can be terrible
- Boring for young people
- Not enough green space
The suburbs are where most families end up. The food scene here is surprisingly good. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The city has invested a lot in new development. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. I've lived in West for about 10 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's exactly what I was looking for. When I first moved here from Seattle, I was surprised by school system. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Good schools in most areas
- Close to major attractions
- The dating scene scene is underrated

The downsides:
- Dating scene is rough
- Limited entertainment options

Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for couples. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

As someone who grew up here, I have mixed feelings honestly. A lot has changed in the past few years though. job market used to be much wild but now it's challenging.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are pretty good, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Hot take but I love the pace of life here. I know a lot of people disagree but after 4 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem average.

I've been here 3 years and it's exactly what I was looking for. The thing nobody mentions is housing market. It's established and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the community vibe is legit. And if you're into camping, this place is solid.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Cedar Grove side vs the Lakewood side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Good luck with whatever you decide..

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, I love the pace of life here. Good luck with whatever you decide..
