Day-to-day life in Evansville, IN

Alright, I'm single, late 20s, and Homes are going for about $129,100 on average. Crime rate is something to consider -Evansville sits at 612.6 per 100K. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The suburbs are where most families end up. What would you do? Thanks! The city has invested a lot in new development. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Property taxes are high but you get good services. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Weather-wise, the summers are challenging and winters are growing. You get used to it after the first year.

I work in real estate here and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The job market for my field is decent. Happy to answer more specific questions..

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it exceeded my expectations. Feel free to reach out with questions..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a social worker, 31, moved here 12 years ago from Tampa. I've lived in Oak Park and Springfield, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Low crime in most neighborhoods
2. Decent public transit for the size
3. Strong job market in several industries
4. The people are generally better than expected - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Homeless population growing downtown
2. Far from beaches/mountains
3. The housing market situation is developing and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Oak Park: Great for families. decent vibes, walkable.
- Springfield: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Tampa, everything felt solid. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are stable. Gas is reasonable. You can live comfortably on $60K-$140K here.

**Final verdict:**
No regrets on my end.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
