Moving from Seattle to Evansville next month

Hey folks, I grew up here but left for a while. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. What would you do?

We moved here with our family and I'm still on the fence after all this time. Schools in Meadowbrook area are pretty good. Kids love it here.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want nightlife, then yeah this place is great. But if public transit matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a teacher who relocated here from Miami about 5 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and a fresh start.

Pros I've experienced:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Decent public transit for the size
- Strong job market in several industries

Cons that are real:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Limited high-paying job options

Financially, we've found it better than expected compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are pricey, gas is hit or miss.

Socially, it's been a really good experience overall. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Came here for work and stayed because there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The food scene is honestly hit or miss and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Used to live on the Maple Ridge side, now on the Fairview side. Completely different vibe. it's exactly what I was looking for.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Happy to answer more specific questions..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are tough, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a lawyer who relocated here from Miami about 3 years ago. The main reasons were a fresh start and retirement.

Pros I've experienced:
- Strong job market in several industries
- Lots of new development happening
- Good airport with direct flights

Cons that are real:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Homeless population growing downtown

Financially, we've found it excellent compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are affordable, gas is surprisingly good.

Socially, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Definitely worth checking out..

Hot take but I genuinely enjoy living here. I know a lot of people disagree but after 13 years here, that's my honest assessment.
