Anyone else feel this way? Crime rate is something to consider -Evansville sits at 612.6 per 100K. You can expect to pay around $949 for rent here. The unemployment rate is 3.3%, which is pretty low. It's a a mid-size city city with about 116K people. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The weather takes some getting used to. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it was the best decision I ever made. Definitely worth checking out..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a contractor who relocated here from Charlotte about 4 years ago. The main reasons were quality of life and quality of life.
Pros I've experienced:
- Strong job market in several industries
- Four distinct seasons
- Lots of family-friendly activities
Cons that are real:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Road conditions need improvement
Financially, we've found it tough compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are pricey, gas is improving.
Socially, it exceeded my expectations. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

We moved here with our family and it's not perfect but it works for me. Schools in South area are pretty good. Kids love it here.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 4-bedroom. it was the best decision I ever made. Compared to Minneapolis it's underrated.

I've lived in The Heights for about 10 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I'm still on the fence after all this time. When I first moved here from Boston, I was surprised by healthcare. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- The outdoor recreation scene is pretty good
The downsides:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Urban sprawl is real
Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for retirees. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

I'm a pharmacist who relocated here from Denver about 4 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and quality of life.
Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Good schools in most areas
- Strong job market in several industries
Cons that are real:
- Winters are long and cold
- Property taxes are high
Financially, we've found it tough compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are growing, gas is decent.
Socially, it was the best decision I ever made. Good luck with whatever you decide..
