Working remotely from Evansville

Alright, You can expect to pay around $949 for rent here. Median household income is $52,251, which feels on the lower side for the area. With a population of 116K, Evansville is a mid-size city. Crime rate is something to consider -Evansville sits at 612.6 per 100K. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Thanks in advance! There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The suburbs are where most families end up. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Property taxes are high but you get good services. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus.

We moved here with our family and it's been a really good experience overall. Schools in Riverside area are challenging. Kids love it here.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 10 years ago from Dallas and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Highland. It's surprisingly good for what you get.

Jobs: The market is wild right now, especially in legal. If you're in consulting you might struggle.

People: Generally hit or miss. It took about 11 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: challenging. Tons of options if you like Asian.

Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Bought a house here in 2022 and it's exactly what I was looking for. Property values have gone up a bit since then.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a project manager who relocated here from Atlanta about 2 years ago. The main reasons were family and my partner's job.

Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Good airport with direct flights
- Strong sense of community

Cons that are real:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Nightlife is limited

Financially, we've found it surprisingly good compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are wild, gas is average.

Socially, it was the best decision I ever made. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a teacher, 54, moved here 15 years ago from LA. I've lived in East and Eastside, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Great outdoor activities nearby
2. Good internet infrastructure
3. Affordable housing options
4. The people are generally solid - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Limited shopping options
2. Limited entertainment options
3. The public transit situation is reasonable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- East: Great for young professionals. better than expected vibes, walkable.
- Eastside: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from LA, everything felt excellent. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are manageable. Gas is wild. You can live comfortably on $70K-$110K here.

**Final verdict:**
Feel free to reach out with questions.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 3 years ago from Charlotte and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Oak Park. It's surprisingly good for what you get.

Jobs: The market is pricey right now, especially in real estate. If you're in education you might struggle.

People: Generally improving. It took about 17 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: tough. Tons of options if you like BBQ.

Would recommend to anyone considering it..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 15 years ago from Minneapolis and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Lakewood. It's better than expected for what you get.

Jobs: The market is affordable right now, especially in construction. If you're in manufacturing you might struggle.

People: Generally solid. It took about 17 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: solid. Tons of options if you like sushi.

Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 3-bedroom. I have mixed feelings honestly. Compared to Tampa it's challenging.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are surprisingly good, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.
