What I wish I knew before living in Everett

My family moved here when I was a kid. You can expect to pay around $777 for rent here. Homes are going for about $122,000 on average. Household incomes average around $40,903 in Everett. The city has invested a lot in new development. The weather takes some getting used to. Anyone in a similar situation? There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The food scene here is surprisingly good. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a marketing manager who relocated here from Phoenix about 7 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and retirement.

Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Decent public transit for the size
- Lots of new development happening

Cons that are real:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Property taxes are high

Financially, we've found it hit or miss compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are wild, gas is decent.

Socially, it was the best decision I ever made. Good luck with whatever you decide..
