Cost of living reality check -Everett

Hello, My partner and I are Household incomes average around $81,502 in Everett. Average temperature is around 51--F, so expect cold winters. You can expect to pay around $1,675 for rent here. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The food scene here is surprisingly good.

Pros:
- Affordable cost of living
- Growing food scene
- Good internet infrastructure

Cons:
- Traffic can be terrible
- Cold winters
- Not very walkable
- Chain restaurants dominate
- Not enough green space
I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a sales manager, 46, moved here 14 years ago from Denver. I've lived in Sunset and The Heights, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Low crime in most neighborhoods
2. Good healthcare facilities
3. Affordable housing options
4. The people are generally surprisingly good - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Rising rent and home prices
2. Far from beaches/mountains
3. The outdoor recreation situation is manageable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Sunset: Great for young professionals. tough vibes, walkable.
- The Heights: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Denver, everything felt underrated. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are pricey. Gas is competitive. You can live comfortably on $70K-$120K here.

**Final verdict:**
Happy to answer more specific questions.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

As someone who grew up here, it's exactly what I was looking for. A lot has changed in the past few years though. job market used to be much wild but now it's better than expected.

We moved here with our family and it's improved dramatically in recent years. Schools in Oak Park area are excellent. Kids love it here.

I've been living here for 2 years and I'd say it's been a really good experience overall. The cultural scene is surprisingly good compared to other places I've lived. Overall Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Came here for weather and stayed because I genuinely enjoy living here. The food scene is honestly better than expected and I don't see that changing anytime soon.
