Hello, Rent is about $1,675/month for a decent place. Median household income is $81,502, which feels pretty solid for the area. The median home value here is around $532,300, which is pretty steep. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The suburbs are where most families end up. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. I work in consulting here and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The job market for my field is surprisingly good. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a accountant who relocated here from Denver about 10 years ago. The main reasons were weather and a job opportunity.
Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Strong job market in several industries
Cons that are real:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Urban sprawl is real
Financially, we've found it better than expected compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are stable, gas is hit or miss.
Socially, it's been a really good experience overall. Feel free to reach out with questions..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem hit or miss.
I've been here 3 years and it exceeded my expectations. The thing nobody mentions is safety. It's developing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the outdoor recreation is legit. And if you're into camping, this place is average.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Midtown side vs the Fairview side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Definitely worth checking out..

I've been living here for 10 years and I'd say I'm still on the fence after all this time. The housing market is pretty good compared to other places I've lived. Overall Good luck with whatever you decide..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a nurse, 27, moved here 13 years ago from Atlanta. I've lived in Downtown and The Heights, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Friendly community, easy to meet people
2. Good schools in most areas
3. Good airport with direct flights
4. The people are generally underrated - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Limited high-paying job options
2. Road conditions need improvement
3. The cost of living situation is wild and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Downtown: Great for singles. pretty good vibes, walkable.
- The Heights: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Atlanta, everything felt solid. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are stable. Gas is established. You can live comfortably on $90K-$70K here.
**Final verdict:**
Give it a chance - it might surprise you.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
