Hi all, My partner and I are The unemployment rate is 8.4%, which is concerning. Rent is about $1,207/month for a decent place. It's a a small town city with about 10,280 people. The weather takes some getting used to. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The city has invested a lot in new development. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem average.
I've been here 1 years and I genuinely enjoy living here. The thing nobody mentions is job market. It's growing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the food scene is legit. And if you're into camping, this place is decent.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Highland side vs the Meadowbrook side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Hot take but it's been a really good experience overall. I know a lot of people disagree but after 4 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a nurse who relocated here from Miami about 9 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and weather.
Pros I've experienced:
- Good schools in most areas
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Four distinct seasons
Cons that are real:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Property taxes are high
Financially, we've found it hit or miss compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are pricey, gas is excellent.
Socially, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I have mixed feelings honestly. Internet is tough in most areas.
