What's it really like living in Exeter?

First post here. Poverty rate is 2.4%, which is pretty low. Rent is about $1,569/month for a decent place. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. What do you all think? It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Public transit is average here. You'll probably need a car for most things. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a sales manager who relocated here from Seattle about 14 years ago. The main reasons were work and a fresh start.

Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Good healthcare facilities
- Good internet infrastructure

Cons that are real:
- Limited public transit options
- Rising rent and home prices

Financially, we've found it excellent compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are competitive, gas is hit or miss.

Socially, it's been a really good experience overall. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

I'm a HR manager who relocated here from Phoenix about 13 years ago. The main reasons were family and a fresh start.

Pros I've experienced:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Lots of new development happening
- Diverse dining options

Cons that are real:
- Road conditions need improvement
- Limited shopping options

Financially, we've found it average compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are established, gas is average.

Socially, I have mixed feelings honestly. Feel free to reach out with questions..

I'm a contractor who relocated here from Boston about 5 years ago. The main reasons were a fresh start and family.

Pros I've experienced:
- Strong job market in several industries
- Close to major attractions
- Lots of family-friendly activities

Cons that are real:
- Homeless population growing downtown
- Far from beaches/mountains

Financially, we've found it underrated compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are stable, gas is underrated.

Socially, I love the pace of life here. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 10 years ago from San Diego and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in The Heights. It's challenging for what you get.

Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in marketing. If you're in construction you might struggle.

People: Generally pretty good. It took about 9 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: underrated. Tons of options if you like sushi.

It's not for everyone but it works for us..
