Job hunting in Fair Haven -tips?

Hey, My family moved here when I was a kid. Rent is about $3,500/month for a decent place. The median home value here is around $943,300, which is pretty steep. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Am I wrong here? I'd say it's better for families than young singles. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it's not perfect but it works for me. Internet is tough in most areas.

I work in legal here and I genuinely enjoy living here. The job market for my field is excellent. Definitely worth checking out..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a accountant who relocated here from Seattle about 15 years ago. The main reasons were a fresh start and retirement.

Pros I've experienced:
- Good schools in most areas
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Active local events and festivals

Cons that are real:
- Homeless population growing downtown
- Limited entertainment options

Financially, we've found it better than expected compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are growing, gas is surprisingly good.

Socially, it's been a really good experience overall. No regrets on my end..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value pet-friendliness, you'll love it. The school system is genuinely underrated and I've found I have mixed feelings honestly. My neighborhood (Oak Park) is reasonable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Dallas, be prepared for the culture shock. nightlife is completely different here. And Summers can be brutally hot.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it's improved dramatically in recent years. Happy to answer more specific questions..
