Just moved here 16 months ago and The unemployment rate is 3.1%, which is pretty low. You can expect to pay around $1,797 for rent here. Homes are going for about $645,600 on average. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The suburbs are where most families end up.

Public transit is decent here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 8 years ago from Phoenix and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Greenfield. It's decent for what you get.
Jobs: The market is growing right now, especially in engineering. If you're in legal you might struggle.
People: Generally hit or miss. It took about 16 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: underrated. Tons of options if you like farm-to-table.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value traffic, you'll love it. The weather is genuinely pretty good and I've found it exceeded my expectations. My neighborhood (Lakewood) is reasonable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Raleigh, be prepared for the culture shock. school system is completely different here. And Not a lot of cultural diversity.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
