So, Been living here since 2018. Rent is about $1,797/month for a decent place. The median home value here is around $645,600, which is pretty steep. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Worth the trade-offs? Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The food scene here is surprisingly good.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a chef who relocated here from San Francisco about 10 years ago. The main reasons were school and retirement.
Pros I've experienced:
- Good schools in most areas
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Good healthcare facilities
Cons that are real:
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
- Chain restaurants dominate
Financially, we've found it underrated compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are growing, gas is solid.
Socially, I love the pace of life here. Good luck with whatever you decide..

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want dating scene, then yeah this place is great. But if weather matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 12 years ago from Salt Lake City and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Maple Ridge. It's decent for what you get.
Jobs: The market is established right now, especially in hospitality. If you're in finance you might struggle.
People: Generally decent. It took about 16 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: better than expected. Tons of options if you like Southern.
Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value cost of living, you'll love it. The housing market is genuinely challenging and I've found I genuinely enjoy living here. My neighborhood (South) is manageable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Baltimore, be prepared for the culture shock. safety is completely different here. And Not very walkable outside downtown.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
