Couple moving to Fair Oaks from out of state

I'm retired and Median household income is $119,387, which feels pretty solid for the area. The median home value here is around $580,500, which is pretty steep. With a population of 35,472, Fair Oaks is a smaller city. Crime rate is something to consider -Fair Oaks sits at 73.9 per 100K. The city has invested a lot in new development. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. What do you all think? It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The weather takes some getting used to. The weather takes some getting used to. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 1 years ago from Baltimore and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Springfield. It's tough for what you get.

Jobs: The market is reasonable right now, especially in engineering. If you're in marketing you might struggle.

People: Generally solid. It took about 11 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: excellent. Tons of options if you like seafood.

Good luck with whatever you decide..
