Couple moving to Fairbanks from out of state

Hey everyone, I'm a teacher here and With a population of 32,242, Fairbanks is a smaller city. Household incomes average around $72,077 in Fairbanks. Homes are going for about $255,700 on average. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Would love some local perspective. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Property taxes are high but you get good services. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 13 years ago from San Diego and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Oak Park. It's pretty good for what you get.

Jobs: The market is established right now, especially in healthcare. If you're in hospitality you might struggle.

People: Generally pretty good. It took about 16 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: challenging. Tons of options if you like BBQ.

Definitely worth checking out..

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I love the pace of life here. Internet is solid in most areas.
