Moving to Fairborn with kids -good idea?

Hi all, I work in retail and Crime rate is something to consider -Fairborn sits at 260.9 per 100K. The median home value here is around $169,600, which is actually reasonable. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Am I wrong here?

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a pharmacist, 46, moved here 9 years ago from Houston. I've lived in Eastside and Meadowbrook, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Good internet infrastructure
2. Good airport with direct flights
3. Diverse dining options
4. The people are generally surprisingly good - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Not very walkable outside downtown
2. Limited shopping options
3. The outdoor recreation situation is affordable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Eastside: Great for couples. surprisingly good vibes, walkable.
- Meadowbrook: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Houston, everything felt improving. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are affordable. Gas is established. You can live comfortably on $50K-$70K here.

**Final verdict:**
Would recommend to anyone considering it.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is dating scene. I have mixed feelings honestly. Worth doing your research before committing.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it's been a really good experience overall. Internet is tough in most areas.

I work in hospitality here and it's not perfect but it works for me. The job market for my field is underrated. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem pretty good.

I've been here 13 years and it's been a really good experience overall. The thing nobody mentions is outdoor recreation. It's established and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the pet-friendliness is legit. And if you're into surfing, this place is solid.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The East side vs the Eastside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want housing market, then yeah this place is great. But if walkability matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a chef, 51, moved here 11 years ago from Seattle. I've lived in Sunset and Oak Park, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Affordable housing options
2. Good airport with direct flights
3. Strong sense of community
4. The people are generally challenging - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Road conditions need improvement
2. Dating scene is rough
3. The cultural scene situation is competitive and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Sunset: Great for remote workers. decent vibes, walkable.
- Oak Park: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Seattle, everything felt better than expected. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are pricey. Gas is growing. You can live comfortably on $80K-$120K here.

**Final verdict:**

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 2-bedroom. I genuinely enjoy living here. Compared to Miami it's pretty good.
