Remote worker thinking about Fairborn

Hey everyone, I'm a 32-year-old pharmacist and Household incomes average around $55,966 in Fairborn. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Let me know your thoughts. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The suburbs are where most families end up. It's not perfect, but the community is solid.

Background: I'm a software engineer, 55, moved here 9 years ago from San Diego. I've lived in Downtown and Meadowbrook, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Good schools in most areas
2. Low crime in most neighborhoods
3. Affordable housing options
4. The people are generally pretty good - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Not very walkable outside downtown
2. Chain restaurants dominate
3. The safety situation is competitive and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Downtown: Great for families. hit or miss vibes, walkable.
- Meadowbrook: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from San Diego, everything felt tough. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are wild. Gas is affordable. You can live comfortably on $40K-$140K here.

I've been in Riverside for 1 years. Moved from Tampa for work. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is decent. We bought in 2020 at k and it's now worth about the same than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 3-bed in a safe area. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable.

**Employment:**
government is strong here. consulting is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are stable for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
it's not perfect but it works for me. The outdoor scene is decent - we have rivers within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Riverside schools are surprisingly good. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Nightlife is limited. Road conditions need improvement. And weather can be frustrating.

it exceeded my expectations. When I first moved here from Boston, I was surprised by cost of living. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
