The good and bad of living in Fairburn

Random thought, Been living here since 2008. Median household income is $89,276, which feels pretty solid for the area. Household incomes average around $89,276 in Fairburn. Rent is about $1,589/month for a decent place. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The city has invested a lot in new development. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level.

As someone who grew up here, it's been a really good experience overall. A lot has changed in the past few years though. cost of living used to be much manageable but now it's surprisingly good.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value housing market, you'll love it. The community vibe is genuinely solid and I've found I genuinely enjoy living here. My neighborhood (Cedar Grove) is competitive and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Chicago, be prepared for the culture shock. weather is completely different here. And Not very walkable outside downtown.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 8 years ago from Portland and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Highland. It's pretty good for what you get.

Jobs: The market is developing right now, especially in hospitality. If you're in marketing you might struggle.

People: Generally excellent. It took about 8 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: surprisingly good. Tons of options if you like Korean.

Would recommend to anyone considering it..

I've lived in West for about 12 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I'm still on the fence after all this time. When I first moved here from Baltimore, I was surprised by food scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Good healthcare facilities
- Decent public transit for the size
- The dating scene scene is decent

The downsides:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Far from beaches/mountains

Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for remote workers. Good luck with whatever you decide..

If you value cultural scene, you'll love it. The dating scene is genuinely surprisingly good and I've found it's improved dramatically in recent years. My neighborhood (Lakewood) is growing and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Phoenix, be prepared for the culture shock. cost of living is completely different here. And Not a lot of cultural diversity.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 1-bedroom. it's not perfect but it works for me. Compared to Atlanta it's challenging.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem excellent.

I've been here 7 years and the quality of life is solid. The thing nobody mentions is outdoor recreation. It's growing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the public transit is legit. And if you're into surfing, this place is surprisingly good.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Meadowbrook side vs the Highland side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

No regrets on my end..

Weather-wise, the summers are tough and winters are manageable. You get used to it after the first year.

Bought a house here in 2015 and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Property values have gone up significantly since then.

I've been living here for 12 years and I'd say I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The food scene is surprisingly good compared to other places I've lived. Overall Happy to answer more specific questions..
