Hey folks, Been living here since 2010. With a population of 12,298, Fairfax Station is a small town. The unemployment rate is 3.1%, which is pretty low. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Thoughts? The weather takes some getting used to. The city has invested a lot in new development. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood.

My experience has been mostly positive. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The only thing I'd watch out for is dating scene. Other than that, No regrets on my end..

We moved here with our family and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Schools in Midtown area are pretty good. Kids love it here.

I've lived in Oak Park for about 6 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's been a really good experience overall. When I first moved here from San Diego, I was surprised by walkability. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Good internet infrastructure
- The walkability scene is solid
The downsides:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Limited public transit options
Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for young professionals. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Came here for weather and stayed because the quality of life is solid. The safety is honestly better than expected and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value cultural scene, you'll love it. The pet-friendliness is genuinely hit or miss and I've found it's improved dramatically in recent years. My neighborhood (Westside) is wild and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Raleigh, be prepared for the culture shock. dating scene is completely different here. And Summers can be brutally hot.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem underrated.
I've been here 12 years and it's not perfect but it works for me. The thing nobody mentions is traffic. It's growing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the cost of living is legit. And if you're into camping, this place is excellent.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Cedar Grove side vs the South side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..
