Life in Fairfield as a young professional

Hi all, With a population of 9,846, Fairfield is a small town. Homes are going for about $120,100 on average. You can expect to pay around $997 for rent here. The unemployment rate is 3.2%, which is pretty low. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The weather takes some getting used to. Thoughts? The food scene here is surprisingly good. Property taxes are high but you get good services. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The suburbs are where most families end up. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are challenging, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 1 years ago from Raleigh and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Old Town. It's challenging for what you get.

Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in retail. If you're in engineering you might struggle.

People: Generally solid. It took about 8 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: decent. Tons of options if you like BBQ.

Would recommend to anyone considering it..

I've been living here for 4 years and I'd say it's not perfect but it works for me. The traffic is decent compared to other places I've lived. Overall Feel free to reach out with questions..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a software engineer who relocated here from Seattle about 15 years ago. The main reasons were my partner's job and cost of living.

Pros I've experienced:
- Active local events and festivals
- Close to major attractions
- Good airport with direct flights

Cons that are real:
- Nightlife is limited
- Homeless population growing downtown

Financially, we've found it underrated compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are growing, gas is better than expected.

Socially, it was the best decision I ever made. Happy to answer more specific questions..

Bought a house here in 2018 and the quality of life is solid. Property values have gone about the same since then.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 4-bedroom. I genuinely enjoy living here. Compared to San Francisco it's excellent.

Weather-wise, the summers are hit or miss and winters are reasonable. You get used to it after the first year.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a lawyer who relocated here from Chicago about 14 years ago. The main reasons were family and quality of life.

Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Strong job market in several industries
- Lots of family-friendly activities

Cons that are real:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Urban sprawl is real

Financially, we've found it underrated compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are pricey, gas is average.

Socially, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Definitely worth checking out..
