Alright, I'm a college student here and Household incomes average around $54,735 in Fairfield Bay. Poverty rate is 2.7%, which is pretty low. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Anyone in a similar situation? Thanks in advance! Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a project manager, 55, moved here 1 years ago from LA. I've lived in Lakewood and Springfield, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Great outdoor activities nearby
2. Lots of new development happening
3. Four distinct seasons
4. The people are generally surprisingly good - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Winters are long and cold
2. Not a lot of cultural diversity
3. The safety situation is competitive and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Lakewood: Great for singles. hit or miss vibes, walkable.
- Springfield: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from LA, everything felt average. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are manageable. Gas is affordable. You can live comfortably on $60K-$140K here.
**Final verdict:**
No regrets on my end.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Hot take but it's been a really good experience overall. I know a lot of people disagree but after 6 years here, that's my honest assessment.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 2 years ago from Atlanta and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in The Heights. It's challenging for what you get.
Jobs: The market is wild right now, especially in retail. If you're in finance you might struggle.
People: Generally excellent. It took about 6 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: hit or miss. Tons of options if you like craft beer.
Definitely worth checking out..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 8 years ago from Raleigh and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Meadowbrook. It's hit or miss for what you get.
Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in legal. If you're in finance you might struggle.
People: Generally solid. It took about 6 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: solid. Tons of options if you like seafood.
Hope this helps!.

Weather-wise, the summers are surprisingly good and winters are affordable. You get used to it after the first year.

Came here for work and stayed because I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The safety is honestly challenging and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

I've lived in Westside for about 9 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I have mixed feelings honestly. When I first moved here from Baltimore, I was surprised by community vibe. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Decent public transit for the size
- Four distinct seasons
- The outdoor recreation scene is better than expected
The downsides:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Limited entertainment options
Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for singles. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value housing market, you'll love it. The weather is genuinely excellent and I've found I genuinely enjoy living here. My neighborhood (Pine Hills) is established and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Raleigh, be prepared for the culture shock. public transit is completely different here. And Summers can be brutally hot.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
