Anyone else love living in Fairfield?

Not sure if this has been asked before, but Military spouse here. With a population of 120K, Fairfield is a mid-size city. Median household income is $102,321, which feels pretty solid for the area. It's a a mid-size city city with about 120K people. Crime rate is something to consider — Fairfield sits at 373.4 per 100K. The city has invested a lot in new development. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood.

Pros:
- Great weather
- Diverse community
- Lots of new development

Cons:
- Traffic can be terrible
- Cold winters
- Limited nightlife
- Chain restaurants dominate
Has anyone dealt with this? Any help is appreciated. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The weather takes some getting used to. The city has invested a lot in new development. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. It's changing fast — some good, some not so much. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The weather takes some getting used to. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The suburbs are where most families end up. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 14 years ago from Austin and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Cedar Grove. It's tough for what you get.

Jobs: The market is reasonable right now, especially in legal. If you're in construction you might struggle.

People: Generally tough. It took about 12 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: better than expected. Tons of options if you like Korean.

It's not for everyone but it works for us..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 10 years ago from Denver and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Old Town. It's improving for what you get.

Jobs: The market is wild right now, especially in hospitality. If you're in education you might struggle.

People: Generally solid. It took about 12 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: average. Tons of options if you like Italian.

Definitely worth checking out..

We moved here with our family and it's been a really good experience overall. Schools in Uptown area are average. Kids love it here.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are better than expected, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Meadowbrook for 1 years. Moved from Portland for weather. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is hit or miss. We bought in 2022 at k and it's now worth about the same than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 4-bed in a safe area. Lots of new construction which should help.

**Employment:**
consulting is strong here. manufacturing is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are wild for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
it was the best decision I ever made. The outdoor scene is better than expected - we have rivers within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Meadowbrook schools are challenging. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Nightlife is limited. Road conditions need improvement. And public transit can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For retirees, I'd say this is a 6/10. Would recommend to anyone considering it.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

I work in retail here and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The job market for my field is tough. Feel free to reach out with questions..
