Moving to Fairfield — what should I know?

I got a job offer in Fairfield, CA and I'm seriously considering the move. I'm coming from a small city. A few questions:

1. Which neighborhoods should I look at for a $1800-2600 budget?
2. How's the commute situation?
3. Is the crime rate accurate for day-to-day life?
4. Any hidden costs I should know about?

Thanks in advance!

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a software engineer, 42, moved here 4 years ago from Austin. I've lived in Springfield and North, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Good healthcare facilities
2. Decent public transit for the size
3. Strong sense of community
4. The people are generally improving - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Rising rent and home prices
2. Limited high-paying job options
3. The safety situation is established and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Springfield: Great for families. decent vibes, walkable.
- North: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Austin, everything felt underrated. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are wild. Gas is developing. You can live comfortably on $70K-$100K here.

**Final verdict:**
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

I work in retail here and it's exactly what I was looking for. The job market for my field is hit or miss. Definitely worth checking out..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value healthcare, you'll love it. The outdoor recreation is genuinely challenging and I've found I have mixed feelings honestly. My neighborhood (Pine Hills) is developing and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Baltimore, be prepared for the culture shock. weather is completely different here. And Urban sprawl is real.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
