I grew up here but left for a while. With a population of 44,597, Fairfield is a smaller city. The unemployment rate is 3.6%, which is pretty low. Average temperature is around 54--F, so expect cold winters. You can expect to pay around $1,145 for rent here. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Is this normal for Fairfield? TIA! Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Property taxes are high but you get good services.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem solid.
I've been here 9 years and it exceeded my expectations. The thing nobody mentions is nightlife. It's competitive and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the cultural scene is legit. And if you're into golfing, this place is solid.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The South side vs the Cedar Grove side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Definitely worth checking out..

The food scene here is surprisingly good. Tons of great Asian places. it's not perfect but it works for me.
