Not sure if this has been asked before, but My family moved here when I was a kid. Crime rate is something to consider -Fairfield sits at 197.1 per 100K. Rent is about $1,145/month for a decent place. The median home value here is around $218,100, which is actually reasonable. Average temperature is around 54--F, so expect cold winters. The city has invested a lot in new development. Property taxes are high but you get good services. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Should I be concerned?

As someone who grew up here, it's improved dramatically in recent years. A lot has changed in the past few years though. community vibe used to be much competitive but now it's surprisingly good.

I've lived in Old Town for about 10 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's exactly what I was looking for. When I first moved here from Chicago, I was surprised by public transit. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Good schools in most areas
- Strong job market in several industries
- The job market scene is surprisingly good
The downsides:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Property taxes are high
Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for families. Would recommend to anyone considering it..
