Random thought, I'm a nurse at the local hospital and Poverty rate is 6.8%, which is pretty low. With a population of 26,183, Fairland is a smaller city. It's a a smaller city city with about 26,183 people. Rent is about $1,851/month for a decent place. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. What do you all think? It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The city has invested a lot in new development. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly.

We moved here with our family and it exceeded my expectations. Schools in Oak Park area are pretty good. Kids love it here.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are hit or miss, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want school system, then yeah this place is great. But if community vibe matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a project manager, 44, moved here 15 years ago from San Diego. I've lived in Lakewood and Eastside, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Low crime in most neighborhoods
2. Good healthcare facilities
3. Decent public transit for the size
4. The people are generally excellent - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Urban sprawl is real
2. Far from beaches/mountains
3. The safety situation is reasonable and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Lakewood: Great for remote workers. pretty good vibes, walkable.
- Eastside: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from San Diego, everything felt decent. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are developing. Gas is affordable. You can live comfortably on $60K-$80K here.
**Final verdict:**
It's not for everyone but it works for us.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem hit or miss.
I've been here 9 years and I have mixed feelings honestly. The thing nobody mentions is job market. It's established and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the outdoor recreation is legit. And if you're into golfing, this place is surprisingly good.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Lakewood side vs the North side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Feel free to reach out with questions..

The food scene here is average. Tons of great seafood places. it's exactly what I was looking for.
