Alright, I grew up here but left for a while. With a population of 18,303, Fairmont is a small town. It's a a small town city with about 18,303 people. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value safety, you'll love it. The traffic is genuinely solid and I've found I'm still on the fence after all this time. My neighborhood (Lakewood) is manageable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Salt Lake City, be prepared for the culture shock. traffic is completely different here. And Winters are long and cold.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it's been a really good experience overall. Internet is improving in most areas.

We moved here with our family and it was the best decision I ever made. Schools in Cedar Grove area are underrated. Kids love it here.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 2 years ago from LA and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in South. It's improving for what you get.
Jobs: The market is pricey right now, especially in engineering. If you're in finance you might struggle.
People: Generally pretty good. It took about 9 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: tough. Tons of options if you like Korean.
No regrets on my end..

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it's not perfect but it works for me. Definitely worth checking out..

I've lived in North for about 3 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
the quality of life is solid. When I first moved here from LA, I was surprised by pet-friendliness. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Lots of new development happening
- The school system scene is better than expected
The downsides:
- Chain restaurants dominate
- Bugs and humidity in summer
Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for young professionals. Happy to answer more specific questions..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem improving.
I've been here 11 years and it exceeded my expectations. The thing nobody mentions is nightlife. It's stable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the cultural scene is legit. And if you're into rock climbing, this place is surprisingly good.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Meadowbrook side vs the Cedar Grove side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Public transit is hit or miss here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it's improved dramatically in recent years.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 5 years ago from Salt Lake City and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Pine Hills. It's challenging for what you get.
Jobs: The market is wild right now, especially in legal. If you're in marketing you might struggle.
People: Generally decent. It took about 10 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: average. Tons of options if you like Thai.
Definitely worth checking out..

I've been here 5 years and the quality of life is solid. The thing nobody mentions is weather. It's affordable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the school system is legit. And if you're into fishing, this place is hit or miss.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Sunset side vs the Uptown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

My experience has been mostly positive. it was the best decision I ever made. The only thing I'd watch out for is food scene. Other than that, It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 3-bedroom. it's not perfect but it works for me. Compared to Atlanta it's tough.
