Job hunting in Fairmont -tips?

Curious what people think. I'm originally from Tucson and Average temperature is around 54--F, so expect cold winters. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Does this match your experience? It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it's exactly what I was looking for. Internet is excellent in most areas.

I've lived in The Heights for about 9 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's not perfect but it works for me. When I first moved here from Seattle, I was surprised by cultural scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Good internet infrastructure
- The nightlife scene is better than expected

The downsides:
- Property taxes are high
- Not a lot of cultural diversity

Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for singles. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a sales manager who relocated here from Atlanta about 11 years ago. The main reasons were a fresh start and a fresh start.

Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Good healthcare facilities
- Four distinct seasons

Cons that are real:
- Road conditions need improvement
- Bugs and humidity in summer

Financially, we've found it surprisingly good compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are stable, gas is excellent.

Socially, I genuinely enjoy living here. Good luck with whatever you decide..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a contractor, 37, moved here 5 years ago from Denver. I've lived in Maple Ridge and Greenfield, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Growing food and restaurant scene
2. Active local events and festivals
3. Lots of family-friendly activities
4. The people are generally tough - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Traffic during rush hour is rough
2. Can feel isolated
3. The housing market situation is pricey and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Maple Ridge: Great for young professionals. surprisingly good vibes, walkable.
- Greenfield: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Denver, everything felt average. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are wild. Gas is affordable. You can live comfortably on $40K-$90K here.

**Final verdict:**
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

2. Far from beaches/mountains
3. The housing market situation is stable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Midtown: Great for retirees. solid vibes, walkable.
- East: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from San Diego, everything felt surprisingly good. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are developing. Gas is affordable. You can live comfortably on $40K-$90K here.

**Final verdict:**
Would recommend to anyone considering it.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
