Most overrated things about Fairmount

Random thought, With a population of 1,218, Fairmount is a small town. Homes are going for about $113,300 on average. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The suburbs are where most families end up. Am I wrong here? The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem pretty good.

I've been here 4 years and it exceeded my expectations. The thing nobody mentions is job market. It's pricey and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the weather is legit. And if you're into photography, this place is better than expected.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Sunset side vs the South side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Good luck with whatever you decide..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 9 years ago from Seattle and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Downtown. It's underrated for what you get.

Jobs: The market is affordable right now, especially in finance. If you're in real estate you might struggle.

People: Generally surprisingly good. It took about 16 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: average. Tons of options if you like seafood.

Definitely worth checking out..

I've been living here for 11 years and I'd say it's exactly what I was looking for. The traffic is average compared to other places I've lived. Overall Good luck with whatever you decide..

I've lived in East for about 7 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I'm still on the fence after all this time. When I first moved here from LA, I was surprised by traffic. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Strong job market in several industries
- The cost of living scene is pretty good

The downsides:
- Road conditions need improvement
- Homeless population growing downtown

Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for young professionals. Good luck with whatever you decide..

Hot take but it's exactly what I was looking for. I know a lot of people disagree but after 10 years here, that's my honest assessment.
