Random thought, I'm retired and Crime rate is something to consider -Fairview CDP (Dutchess County) sits at 890.2 per 100K. Homes are going for about $256,500 on average. Rent is about $1,525/month for a decent place. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem excellent.
I've been here 8 years and it's been a really good experience overall. The thing nobody mentions is pet-friendliness. It's competitive and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the outdoor recreation is legit. And if you're into running, this place is surprisingly good.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Sunset side vs the Oak Park side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
