Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem tough.
I've been here 4 years and it's not perfect but it works for me. The thing nobody mentions is cultural scene. It's established and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the job market is legit. And if you're into surfing, this place is hit or miss.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Lakewood side vs the East side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Happy to answer more specific questions..

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want school system, then yeah this place is great. But if walkability matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in The Heights for 4 years. Moved from Boston for work. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is underrated. We bought in 2019 at k and it's now worth about the same than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 1-bed in a safe area. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts.
**Employment:**
retail is strong here. construction is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are manageable for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
it's exactly what I was looking for. The outdoor scene is decent - we have hiking trails within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. The Heights schools are solid. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Rising rent and home prices. Limited high-paying job options. And community vibe can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
For couples, I'd say this is a 7/10. It's not for everyone but it works for us.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Hot take but the quality of life is solid. I know a lot of people disagree but after 7 years here, that's my honest assessment.

We moved here with our family and it's improved dramatically in recent years. Schools in The Heights area are better than expected. Kids love it here.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, I love the pace of life here. No regrets on my end..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem challenging.
I've been here 12 years and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The thing nobody mentions is cost of living. It's reasonable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the walkability is legit. And if you're into skiing, this place is hit or miss.

Good luck with whatever you decide..

I've been living here for 15 years and I'd say I have mixed feelings honestly. The dating scene is solid compared to other places I've lived. Overall Good luck with whatever you decide..
